Death

Edna Beatrice Harkey Morton, 86, of 427 N. 10th St., Albemarle died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, in Stanly Memorial Hospital. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Main Street United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Rorie will officiate and interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park. Born Nov. 24, 1918, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Martin L. and Beatrice Louvenia Morris Harkey and was retired sewing and quilting instructor at Stanly Community College. She was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Puese Furr, her second husband, George Morton, a brother, M.L. Harkey, and a sister, Mary Little. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Furr of Albemarle; a sister, Vivian Stanley of Gaffney, S.C.; two grandchildren, Tara Huneycutt and Mark Furr; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1255, Albemarle, NC 28001. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. At other times they will meet at the home of her daughter 427 N. 10th St., Albemarle.
