Death
Joan Sanders Furr -- A resident of New Braunfels, Texas passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 7:59pm at EdenHill Nursing Home surrounded by family. She was born August 4, 1933 in Amite, Louisiana and was 89 years of age. She is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Pointer, son Robert Drew Furr (Cora), daughters Juliann Lee Furr (Michael Bounds) and Jennifer Blair Furr. Grandchildren Madison Furr McClaugherty (Dylan), Caroline Brooke Furr, Courtney Furr Pinegar (Willem), Robert Austin Furr, Travis Walker Furr and Michael A. Pointer. Great granddaughter Ireland Marie McClaugherty. Preceded in death by her husband Robert Hugh Furr, parents Hince and Loney Sanders, brother Jesse Sanders, nephew Allen Sanders and grandchildren Christian Addison Furr and Stephen Travis Furr. Joan was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and wife, and although she lived all over the country, due to Robert’s career in the Air Force, her heart strings always led back to her hometown of Amite and her many friends and family members there. Her memories of life, in the 40’s and 50’s, in that small town and the events and characters there, were often told in stories that brought people to tears of laughter. That part of her will never be forgotten. She had a razor-sharp wit and loved to dance, often surprising us with a quick one-liner or a spontaneous tap dance or solo two step all while in full face makeup and the perfect shade of red lipstick. But it is the life lessons that she instilled in her children that will live on for generations. She will be remembered for the kindness that was reflected in her soft brown eyes, her soft skin, her uncanny and hysterical sense of humor, the love she had for her children, grandchildren, family and animals (except snakes!), and her ability to whip up a batch of fudge or an icebox pie from a twig, not enough sugar and a can of cocoa. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care received at EdenHill over the past several years and Hope Hospice over the past few months. A private graveside service will be held in August in Amite, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St Jude Children’s Hospital or your local pet rescue.Endnotes
