Death

Larry Wayne Petrea, 60, of 1410 Stoker Terrace, Albemarle, died at 1:45 p.m. Dec. 21, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Stanly Funeral Home. The Reverends Grady Blakely, Larry Beaver, Otis Goins and Dan Abernathy will officiate and burial will be in Centerview Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m., prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Stephanie P. Lowder, 37430 Barnhardt Road, Albemarle.Born 1949 in Stanly County, he was the son of the late David A. Petrea and Della Furr Petrea of Locust, who survives. He was Minister of Music at Badin Baptist Church. He was also a Sunday School teacher, former music director of three churches, former pastor of North Stanly Baptist Church in Albemarle and Valleyview Baptist Church in Pekin.He was married to Brenda (Kay) Goins Petrea of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Stephanie P. Lowder and husband, Chad, of Albemarle; a brother, Carl A. Petrea of Locust; two sisters, Shirley P. Baucom and Sylvia P. Downer, both of Stanfield; and two grandchildren, Logan Lowder and Gideon Lowder.Memorials: Checks made payable to Stephanie Lowder to benefit the Larry Petrea grandchildren's college education, care of Bank of Stanly, PO Box 338, Albemarle, NC 28001.
