Death

Joseph Robert "J.R." Nivens, 81, of Kannapolis, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2022, at the Salisbury VA Medical Center. Born Feb. 28, 1941, to the late Robert Pearl Nivens in Mecklenburg County. J.R. served his country during the Vietnam War (1963 to 1965). Upon leaving the service, he met and married the love of his life, the late Linda Nivens (Suggs) Sept. 21, 1965. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stormy Furr. He survived by son and daughter, Timothy Nivens (Kim) of Concord and Nina Poore (Toby) of Kannapolis; six grandchildren, Charissa Fields (Brian), Cheyenne "Amber" Breeze (Codie), Mercedes Barr (Adam), Aspen Furr, Canyon Nivens and Zanye Ross; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Fields, Olivia Breeze, Addison Breeze and Emmett Fields. J.R. was an avid fisherman and carpenter who loved his family and country. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Hospice (#314) at W.G.
