Death
SALISBURY - Larry Gene Flora, 73, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 in Greenwood, SC. Born June 6, 1937 in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Mildred Furr Flora and Herbert Flora, Jr. He was educated in Salisbury City Schools and he served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. He owned and operated Flora Steel Company, along with his brother Steve Flora. An avid numismatist and amateur historian, he was intrigued by computers. Larry loved of animals, especially his canine companions, Tar-zan and Buddy. Mr. Flora was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Basinger Flora, who died Dec. 9, 2006. Survivors include his son, William Flora (Kristine) of Raleigh; daughter, Angela Flora Tinkler (Stuart) of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren, Will, Eleanor and Evelyn Flora and Mary-Stuart and Robert Tinkler. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Lyerly Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Flora family.
