Death
Smith, David Edward, 58, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at Robert J. Dole V.A. Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 4, 1956, in Liberal, Kan., the son of John Frank and Melvina (Earp) Smith. He had attend Liberal Schools and received his GED. He attended Spartan College in Tulsa, Okla. and Wichita State University in Wichita. He was employed for several oil companies before becoming a Sales Representative for Wichita Welding Supply in Wichita. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era from July of 1974 to March of 1975. On Nov. 21, 1974, he married Callie Alene Furr in Liberal, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include mother, Melvina Smith, Wellington, Kan.; sons, John Floyd Smith and wife, Tabitha, Wichita, Matthew Lee Smith and wife, Rachael, Pratt, Kan., Kevin Gene Smith and wife, Debbie, Mayetta, Kan.; brothers, Franklin McLain, Blackwell, Okla., Robert McLain, Penn., Cole Smith, Grove, Okla.; sister, Barbara Feese, Liberal; 9 grandchildren, Brittaney Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Connor Smith, Taylor Smith, Wyatt Smith, Gauge Smith, Camron Smith, Blake Smith and Natalie Smith. He was preceded in death by son, James Edward Smith; and his father, John Frank Smith. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal. Burial will be at in Liberal Cemetery. Military honors given by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation time will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at Brenneman Funeral Home.
