CONCORD William "Bill" M. Dawson, 84, of Concord went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 7, 2013, while at CMC-NE, after a period of declining health. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 10), at Whitley's Annex Chapel with the Rev. Thad Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Annex Chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Bill was born March 5, 1929, in Mecklenburg Co., a son of the late Robert E. and Loretta Maurer Dawson. He was a lifelong area resident and veteran the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Bill retired from Magla Products in Huntersville in 1993. He enjoyed video recording movies off of TV and had a very large collection. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family at home. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Sonny and Frank. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 48 years, Eloise Furr Dawson, of the home; sons, Scott Dawson (Kim), of Kannapolis, Billy Dawson (Angie), of San Jose, Cali. and Bob Dawson (Prudence), of North Carolina; and daughters, Lisa Newsome (John Jr.), of Concord, Darlene Hensley (Ron), of Concord and Brenda Tolbert (Neal), of Waxhaw. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
