Death
Funeral Services for Douglas "Booger" Holcomb, age 81 of Nicholson, MS, who passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, will be held Friday, May 31, 2013, at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Nicholson. Visitation will be Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at McDonald Funeral Home, and also Friday, May 31, 2013 from 12:00PM until service time at First Baptist Church of Nicholson. Burial will be in Old Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home. Bro. Billy Galloway, Bro. Danny Nance, and Bro. R.T. Buckley will officiate the service. A native of Nicholson, MS, he was the owner and operator of Holcomb Fence Company and the original owner of Holcomb's One Stop in Nicholson and a member of First Baptist Church of Nicholson. Doug was a Veteran of the Korean War and an avid fisherman and hunter. The campus of Pearl River Community College held many great memories for "Booger" not the least of which, was meeting the love of his life, Marilyn Miller, whom he married and began his family with in 1953. While attending College, Booger was a two-time All-American Football Player and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Elbert Holcomb and Evelyn Patch Holcomb; his wife of over 54 years, Marilyn Miller Holcomb; his three daughters, Patricia "Patti" Holcomb Brownlow, Debra "Debbie" Holcomb Furr, Susan Holcomb deBoxtel; his granddaughter, Amanda Brownlow Teel; and his brother, Henry Hank Holcomb. Survivors include his three daughters, Sandra Holcomb Bounds, Mary Holcomb Strickland and her husband Allen, Lori Holcomb; 10 grandchildren, Tracy Evans Nichelson, Nikki Evans Kennedy, Lacie Bounds Thigpen, Lane Bounds, Cassie Staples, Kody deBoxtel, Justin deBoxtel, Chris Strickland, Chance Strickland, and Bailey Strickland; 14 great grandchildren, Evan Nichelson, Katie Nichelson, Korey Kennedy, Kirston Kennedy, Kayton Thigpen, Clay Thigpen, Gracie Thigpen, Landon Bounds, Alexa Bounds, Trenton Holcomb, Rainey Farve, Nadelyne deBoxtel, Elijah Strickland and Kadence Strickland; and his sister, Louise Holcomb Hancock.Endnotes
