Death

CONCORD - Mr. Richard Odell Jarvis, Sr. of Jarvis Circle, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning at his home. Richard's funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Coddle Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James A. Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Richard was born February 13, 1929 in Concord to the late Raymond Odell Jarvis and Cordia Furr Jarvis. He played football at Concord High School in the late 1940s before graduating. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, and retired from Atlantic City (NJ) Electric Company after 32 years. Richard was an active member of Coddle Creek ARP, serving as an Elder for many years. He was also preceded in death by brothers Donald, J.B., and Bill Jarvis. Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elma Lehman Jarvis; son, Richard "Rich" O. Jarvis, Jr. and wife Kathy of Concord; daughter, Susan J. Benton and husband Brian Bright of Faith, N.C.; grandchildren, Bobbie Sue Keziah and husband Adam, and Brandon Jarvis and wife Jennifer; great grandchildren, Jessica Benton and Conner Jarvis; brother, Jerry E. Jarvis and wife Helen of Concord; sister, Nancy J. Carriker and husband "Pete" of Concord. Memorials may be made to Coddle Creek ARP Church Building Fund, 2297 Coddle Creek Highway- Highway 3, Mooresville, NC 28115-8739.
