Death
Funeral services will be held for Lancaster Mansfield Downes, 68, of 1501 Downes St., at 2 p.m. Monday in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Downes died Friday in the L.O. Crosby Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Gene Smith will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune under the direction of the McDonald Funeral Home. A native of Pearl River County, Mr. Downes was employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Unitarian Church of God in New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae (Furr) Downes of Picayune; two daughters, Della Jeanette Freeman of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Geraldine Downes of Slidell, La.; two brothers, Willie Downes of Nicholson and Walter Downes of Texas; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday in the McDonald Funeral Home.The Picayune Item, Picayune, Mississippi, September 1, 1985
