Death
DROWNED IN SWAMPCecil Darling Jackson, 42, of Hopewell, drowned yesterday when his car ran into Warwick swamp off State Rt. 613 in Sussex County. Jackson was found in his submerged car shortly after 2 p.m. The car had left the road on a curve and plunged into water six feet deep. State Trooper W. R. Epperson said Jackson apparently had tried to fight his way out of the car. The left front window was down and the right window partly down. The victim apparently was trying to crawl through the right window when he drowned. Epperson said the accident took place between noon and 2 p.m. Jackson's wife said he was on a hunting trip. A native of Goshen, Jackson was a guard at the federal reformatory in Prince George county. He survived by his wife, Mrs. Victoria Jackson; two daughters, Barbara and Anne; a son, Cecil Jackson Jr., all of Hopewell; a sister, Mrs. William H. Baxter of Beloit, Ohio; two brothers, W. L. Jackson of Waverly and Morris Jackson of Texas, and his mother, Mrs. Ray Jackson of Beloit. He was a member of Masonic Lodge at Alderson, W. Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Gould Funeral Home in Hopewell. Burial with military honors will be in the City Point Cemetery.
