William Simon WENTZ
(22 Jun 1888 - 8 Apr 1918)
Monroe, April 8. Bonner Wentz, it is alleged, shot and killed his cousin, William Wentz, five miles north of Monroe, in Goose Creek township, this morning at 7 o'clock. The dead man was 30 years old and leaves a wife and five children. Bonner Wentz is single and is 25 years of age. Both men had been called in the army service and an argument relative to the filling out of questionnaires contributed to the killing, it is said, but here had been further ill feeling in regard to rental of land. Both men are well known and the cruel manner in which the killing was done has aroused some feeling. Bonner Wentz, it is alleged, met his cousin at a well where he had gone for a bucket of water and after a few harsh words drew an automatic pistol and shot William five times, killing him instantly and immediately making his escape. The wife and children of the dead man were the eyewitnesses.
