Christopher Michael Furr, 22, who worked for Dixie Trucking Co., Charlotte, died around 5 p.m. at 6750 Ave, after he apparently fired a shot into his head from a gun similar to an M-16 assault rifle. Crystal Lentz told Rowan County sheriff's investigators she got off work at 7 a.m. Wednesday and went to a female friend's home. She got to the Nathan Avenue home around 5 p.m. and an argument developed after Furr accused her of being out with another man during the day. Furr struck her on the head, grabbed her arms and kicked her legs before Ms. Lentz managed to get away and lock herself inside a car parked outside the home, she told investigators Furr ran after her, broke a window on the car and forced her back inside the home, where he flung her onto a sofa, she said. Sheriff's Capt Rick Thibodeau said Furr then put the rifle to Ms. Lentz’s head and threatened to kill her, saying if he couldn't have her, nobody could. "At that point, she was in a lot of danger,” Thibodeau said. “He had told her he was going to take her out and kill himself.” She managed to get away again when he moved the gun to his own head and threatened to pull the trigger. She ran to a bedroom and had just lain down on the bed when she heard the gun go off, Thibodeau said. She went back into the room and found Furr lying on the floor, she said. Though Ms. Lentz suffered a lump on her head and bruises on her arms, she was not treated for injuries, the report said.
