Death
CONCORD - George Walter Heglar, 88, of Concord, passed away on Jan. 16, 2013, at Tucker Hospice House. George was born in Concord on May 6, 1924, the son of the late Aileen and Homer Heglar. George married Colleen Heglar on Sept. 26, 1948, and they had been married for 64 years. He served his country proudly as a member of theUnited States Navy and fought to preserve our freedom in World War II. He spent his early years as a farmer and later worked several years for Kerr Bleachery. George also worked at Cannon Mills until he retired. He always strived for excellence in his job and took great pride in his work. George loved working in his garden and making his yard look good. He especially enjoyed the month of October: spending time fishing in Cherry Grove Beach with his family and friends from across the country and even South America. He was a man who loved his family and spent many hours just being a father to his children. He was a very caring person; he loved his wife and always made her feel special. They were best friends. Above all else, George Heglar was a man of God. He taught his children to love God through the life he lived in front of them everyday. He served his church as a Sunday School Superintendent, Usher and Greeter. Left to grieve his passing are his wife of 64 years, Colleen Furr Heglar; three sisters: Rachel Love of Midland, Pearl Bost of Concord and Myrtle Rankin of Mt. Pleasant; and children Eddie and Linda Heglar of Kannapolis, Ron and Cheryl Heglar of Greenville, S.C., Pam and Bobby Lyerly of Concord, Ellen and Scotty Morrison of Cullman, Ala., and Paul and Margaret Hamman of Gastonia. He also leaves behind grandchildren Kandi and Jeremy Weddington, Krissi and Tommy Adkins, Amber Heglar-USMC, Rocky and Tara Heglar, Matthew Vance Heglar-US Navy Seals, Cory Vance Heglar, Sara Beth Kelly, Holly Story, Walter Scott Morrison, Robbie and Michelle Hamman and Paula Hamman. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Tyler Hamman, Emily Hamman, Tyrin Jenkins, Avery Worth, Kaitlynn Worth, Lanea Adkins, Gavin Adkins, Elijah Adkins, Charlie Heglar, William Heglar, Anna Heglar, Owen Story and Paisley Story. He also leaves behind his nephew and special friend Dale Heglar. Preceding George in death are his parents; his brothers: Frank Heglar, Woodrow Heglar, Ervin Heglar, Edward Heglar and Clarence Heglar; as well as his sisters: Inez Foster and Grace Dayvault. George, you will always and forever live in our hearts. Service and Visitation: A Service for Mr. Heglar will be held at the West "A" Church of God on Sunday, Jan. 20.
