Bahilda Esperanza Parrella Patterson age 82, passed away on November 27, 2011 in Yuma, Arizona. She had battled cancer since January 2011. She passed away on Thanksgiving weekend with all of her family by her side. Bahilda was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She went to school in Caracas obtaining a nursing degree at the Escuela de Enfernia, then post degree studies in San Pablo, Brazil. Upon returning to Venezuela, she accepted employment with the Standard Oil Company in Caripito Venezuela. She met Roger (Stanley) Patterson, at a company picnic. They were married in 1954. They had four children, Ellen, Roger, Susan, and John. They lived in Venezuela and Turkey, and traveled extensively before returning to Douglas. After her divorce, Bahilda started working at the Cochise County Hospital in 1970. Bahilda delivered nursing care to many Douglas residents as a geriatrics nurse. She retired in 1994 as the Head Nurse of Geriatrics. Bahilda was an active member of the local chapter of AARP and enjoyed helping to serve meals at St. Vincent de Paul’s. She loved to travel and was an active “Abuela” for each of her 12 grandchildren. She was able to travel to Trinidad in July to see her sister, Elia and her family. Bahilda is survived by her sister Elia Ferreira (Trinidad), two brothers Emilio and Hector Parrella (Venezuela), her children Ellen (Mike) Furr, Roger (Karen) Patterson, Susan (Roy) Holley, John Patterson, and 11 grand children.Endnotes
