Death
COLUMBIA — Service for Merildean Layton Furr, 69, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Furr, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Thursday, July 5, 2007. Born in Concord, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Layton. She attended Hartsell High School in Concord and retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Company. Surviving are her husband, William H. Furr; son, Jeffrey H. Furr of Columbia; daughter, Kimberly Briggs of Columbia; granddaughter, Mary Beth Nexsen of Columbia; grandson, Brandon H. Furr of Concord; sister, Helen McClure of Kannapolis, N.C.; and brothers, Hoy Layton of Gainesville, Ga., R.C. Layton of Concord and Terry Layton of Winston-Salem, N.C.The State, Columbia, South Carolina, July 7, 2007
