Notes
Death
With heartfelt sorrow and enduring love, we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Jean Furr, lovingly known as "Jean," on July 16, 2025, in Fresno, California. She was 89 years old. Born on April 14, 1936, in Enid, Oklahoma, to the late Edward A. Reiter and Avoline Brown Reiter, Jean's life was a reflection of grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion to the people and values that mattered most to her. On May 13, 1955, Jean married her soulmate, Jerry B. Furr. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with joy, mutual respect, and deep family bonds. They were blessed with two children: Debra Jean Washburn (deceased) and Duane Jerry Furr. Jean's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: son-inlaw Ray Washburn, Jeremy Delgado-Washburn, Brenden Delgado-Washburn, Joshua and Eva Washburn, Jarod Washburn, Jaclyn Archambault, Jacob Manning, Justin Furr, Jason Fur, and Rebecca Furr; and through her great-grandchildren: Kiya Washburn, Hunter Weber (Washburn), Alex Washburn, Landen Washburn, Elleanor Washburn, Bo Manning, and Oak Manning. Each carries forward her kindness, humor, and gentle strength. She is also survived by her loving siblings: brothers Ed Reiter and Paul Reiter, and sisters Mary Freer and Sue Smith. Jean was preceded in death by her sister Ruby Baker and brother Jack Reiter. Her family meant everything to her, and her presence will be deeply missed across generations. Jean led a fulfilling professional life as an Administrative Assistant at First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo) and later at the IRS. She was admired by colleagues for her professionalism, attention to detail, and sincere warmth. She retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Outside of work, Jean embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved camping-especially at Soquel Campground-crocheting intricate handmade treasures, playing Bingo, and enjoying meaningful time with family and friends. She found deep connection and joy through her involvement in VFW Post 509, the Edison Social Club, and the RavenMortem Hearse Club, where she was celebrated for her sweet spirit, lighthearted humor, and loyal friendship. Jean's favorite music included the timeless voices of Conway Twitty, Lorrie Morgan, Charlie Daniels, Patsy Cline, The Judds, Garth Brooks, and Tim McGraw-melodies that often filled her home and heart. She enjoyed classic comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, tacos, hamburgers, and seafood, always paired with laughter and the warmth of good company. She also cherished the simplicity of classic Disney magic, especially Snow White, and was a passionate fan of the Fresno State Bulldogs and the San Francisco 49ers. Jean will be remembered for her creativity, fun-loving spirit, and the unconditional love she offered so freely. Wheher through a warm smile, a hand-crocheted gift, or a heartfelt conversation, she had a gift for making others feel truly seen and loved. Though her physical presence is gone, Jean's spirit continues to shine through the lives she touched. Her memory will live on in every shared story, every campfire gathering, and every act of kindness inspired by her legacy. A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be announced in the coming days. In her honor, the family encourages friends and loved ones to share their favorite memories and to live by the values Jean so beautifully embodied: love deeply, laugh often, and hold family close. Forever in our hearts-may she rest in peace.Endnotes
