Death

LAKE NORMAN - Glenn "Punch" Belvin, 85 years of age, of Lake Norman, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House of Statesville. Mr. Belvin was born August 30, 1928 in Concord, North Carolina to Ethel Furr Belvin and Loren Monroe Belvin. He is survived by the love of his life for 64 years, Annie Willene Belvin; daughter, Wanda Belvin Carroll and husband Richard of Cornelius; granddaughters, Alecia Smith and husband Michael of Charlotte and Michele Lambert of Concord; great-grandchildren, Haley Lambert of Concord and Madison, Chloeann and Parker Smith of Charlotte; sisters, Verona Rakes and husband Larry of Rockwell and Maxine Dunnmon of Lilburn, GA; lifelong friend and brother mason, Art "88" Walker of Charlotte. Mr. Belvin was preceded in death by his son, Larry Ray Belvin of Concord. Mr. Belvin was a loving husband, father and friend to all. Mr. Belvin owned his own business in the sign painting industry, Belvin Sign Company, and was well thought of and admired by many of his peers. He retired at age 70 to enjoy his dream home on Lake Norman, the second love of his life. He was an active member of Christ Community Church in Huntersville. He enjoyed fishing, boating and being a small plane aviator and was an enthusiast of special causes and charity. Mr. Belvin was an active member of the Lions Club of Jackson Park; a Master Mason of The Williams Masonic Lodge 176 in Cornelius; a 32nd Degree Mason of The Scottish Rite; a Noble Oasis Shriners; and a member of The Quiet Bird Men Flying Association "QBs". His presence in the community was one of distinction and will be missed by all. The family will receive friends from 12:00-3:00 pm, Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Chapel. The family will receive friends and family at their home following the service. Per Mr. Belvin's request, a portion of his ashes will be strewn at sunset over his beloved Lake Norman and the remainder will be placed in the Columbarium at Oakwood Cemetery in a private family service. The family expresses their gratitude to all friends and family who have been supportive during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gordon Hospice House of Iredell County, where the family wishes to honor Mr. Belvin with a bench in their Memorial Garden.
