Death
Lillian Marie Franklin Furr died early Thursday morning, November 9, 2006, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Colin Vance Furr, of Asheville; and the daughter of the late William Roy and Mattie Mae Arrington Franklin of Granville County and Wilmington. Mrs. Furr, known to most people as Marie, was born in Oxford, NC, and later lived in Wilmington where she attended and graduated from New Hanover High School and Mott’s Business School. She and Colin V. Furr were married in 1952, in a romantic elopement to Conway, SC. They lived in Colorado Springs, CO, where Mr. Furr was stationed in the US Air Force. They also lived in Garner, NC, later in Asheville, and Perry Point, and Ft. Howard in Maryland. Mrs. Furr was involved in women’s groups at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Perryville United Methodist Church, Montmorenci United Methodist Church, and Elkwood United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Furr Sluder and her son-in-law, Randall Brooks Sluder; grandsons, Brittain Colin Arrington Sluder and Graham Daniel McIntyre Sluder; a brother; a sister; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave., Tuesday 12:30-1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. in the Brooks Cemetery on Beaverdam Rd. in Candler.
