Death

Tuesday, December 19, 2006 — Roy Daniel Speight, 79, of 921 Speight Rd., Albemarle, died at 12:17 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in Stanly Regional Medical Center. His funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday with a 30-minute state in Anderson Grove Baptist Church, Albemarle, where he was a member. Burial was in Anderson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Ron Honeycutt and Rev. David Alexander officiated. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Born Aug. 18, 1927, in Albemarle, he was the son of the late Walter Seymore and Jeannie Prudence Laton Speight and was a former Deacon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a former employee of Alcoa, a brick mason and loved auctions. He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Daniel Speight; a brother Melvin Speight; five sisters, Ruth Underwood, Mary Belle Lisk, Lillian Mauldin, Rachel Speight and Mabel Fraley; and two grandsons, Brian and Justin Speight. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Lucille Poplin Speight of Albemarle; a son, Roger Wayne, and wife Glenda Speight of Albemarle; a daughter, Janice, and husband, Lloyd Ramsey, of Statesville; a daughter-in-law, Deneise Speight of Albemarle; two sisters, Ozell Pigg of Albemarle and Betty Burr of Wadesboro; a brother and step-brother, Grover Speight and George Carpenter of Albemarle; seven grandchildren, Phillip, Brett, Jared, Ryan and Erik Speight and Adam and Jennifer Ramsey; and three great granddaughters. The family met at his home, 921 Speight Rd. Memorials may be made to Anderson Grove Baptist Church, 2225 E. Main St., Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home was charge.
