Dexter, Familiarly known as Matt Dexter, aged 65, died at his home five miles north of Iuka and was buried the following day at the family graveyard at "Camp Ground." Mr. Dexter was born and reared in this county, and sprung from some of its pioneers. His father, Dan Dexter, was an Englishman, and ran on the Tennessee river for years as a first mate on some of the steamers that sailed that river in the balmy days of Eastport. His mother, Salina Medley, was a sister of John Medley, who was one of the early settlers of Tishomingo County. Matt married Miss Ida Biggs, whose elder daughter married S. M. Dean. M. J. Dexter had three brothers, John, Edd and Will Dexter, the two former preceding him to the grave by many years. He had four sisters; Mrs. Harriet Bonds, who died some years ago, Mrs. Julia Johnson, Mrs. Edd Tigner and Mary Biggs, wife of Bud Biggs, who also died about four years ago. M. J. Dexter and his wife, Ida, have eleven children, four sons, John, Sam, James and Roy; and seven daughters, Lina Bonds, Oeny Morgan, Roxy Walker, Mattie Walker, Jessie Walker, Nancy Carson and Pet Dexter. - A Friend Sources: Death Record, The Vidette, Cemetery Record
