Death

Coy Richard Thompson, 84, of Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in his home. His funeral service will be 2pm Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Stephen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6pm until 7:30pm at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care in Albemarle. Mr. Thompson was born May 14, 1937 in Stanly County to the late, Swink Thompson and Lucy Thompson. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for twenty five years and served as a Church Deacon. Coy is survived by his wife, Martha Furr Thompson of the home for 65 years. Other survivors include a son, Grover Thompson of Locust; two daughters, Laura T. Troutman of New London and Ellen M. Gaskins of Locust; a brother, Ronnie Thompson of Albemarle; a sister, Hazel T. Smith of Albemarle; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Coy was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin "Jack" Thompson, a daughter, Wendy Dennis and granddaughter, Tangi Stamper.
