Individual Details
Joel Sheppard PITTMAN Jr.
(25 Mar 1864 - 10 Feb 1938)
Joel Jr. was born while his father, Joel Sheppard Pittman Sr., was incarcerated at Rock Island Military Prison in Illinois during the Civil War. Joel Sr. died of pneumonia while in prison and never saw his son. Soon after the war Joel's mother, Mary Ann Kennedy Pittman, remarried Jonathan Parker. Jonathan raised Joel, Jr. like his own son. Mr. Parker was a very strict and religious man and raised Joel to be a strong, God-fearing business man. Joel's wife, Ada, died on Feb. 6, 1938 and Joel died four days later. Family members said he grieved himself to death.
