ARIZONA CITY — Melvin “Ron” Furr, 66, of Arizona City died on Sept. 29, 2013.
The service will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1677 in Casa Grande. Mr. Furr was born on Jan. 25, 1947, in Fresno, Calif. He served in the Navy and was on the USS Lynde McCormick in the Vietnam War. He later was an engineer with NASA and worked on the first space shuttle mission. He was a VFW member and enjoyed fixing things, including golf carts and motorcycles. He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of Vietnam Vets/Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club for 15 years. He raised money and toys for needy kids before Christmas and provided security for homeless veterans during stand-downs. He participated in the Casa Grande Memorial Day ceremony and Veterans Day Parade. He lived in Arizona City for 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Dawna; two daughters, Megan Furr of Oregon and Virginia Nelson of Arizona City; two sons, Cody Furr of Oregon and Zack Nelson of Arizona City; and five grandchildren. J.
