Geneva Perlina Hathcock Furr, 89, of 16076 Hopewell Church Rd., Midland died at 1:43 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at her home. Her funeral will be at 4 p.m. today in Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland. The Rev. Tony Gibbs will officiate and burial will be in Mill Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Midland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Born March 23, 1909, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Adam Alexander and Carrie Justine Drye Hathcock and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Midland. Her husband, James Smith Furr, died in1975. She is survived by a son, James Furr of Monroe; three daughters, Melda F. McSwain of Greensboro, Martha F. Goodman of Midland and Justine F. Williams of Charlotte; two brothers, Olin Hathcock of Weaverville and Gerald Hathcock of Concord; two sisters, Addie Barrier and Lucille Tarrentine, both of Concord; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
