Death
Roberta "Gayle" Arey Furr, 80, of Concord, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024. She was born March 24, 1943, in Rowan County to the late James Ross and Pauline Eagle Arey. Mrs. Furr was a graduate of East Rowan High School and then attended business college in Concord. She would then work for Cabarrus County Schools as a bus driver and in the cafeteria at Mt. Pleasant High School for over 25 years, where she retired. Mrs. Furr was a lifelong member of Luther's Lutheran Church where she played the piano for over 50 years and was active in the ELCA. She enjoyed spending time in the mountains, especially in Maggie Valley and Dollywood. Mrs. Furr was well known for sending cards to others, from birthday and get well cards to anniversary cards. She was a gifted cake baker and enjoyed making meals for her family. After retirement, she and her husband would start their second career, which they thoroughly enjoyed, attending events that their grandchildren would participate in, whether it be dropping them off or picking them up at school or attending games or practices they had. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Furr was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Shepherd. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Richard Furr, whom she married October 20, 1968; sons, Shane Furr and wife, Leigh Ann, of Kannapolis and Travis Furr and wife, Aprille, of Rockwell; grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Kennedy, and Kolton Furr; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Shepherd of Salisbury and Jimmie Furr of Concord. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 4, at Luther's Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Jeffrey Hoffner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the graveside, the family will greet friends and relatives in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Luther's Lutheran Church, 4955 Richfield Road, Richfield, NC 28137. Powles Staton Funeral Home of Rockwell is assisting the Furr family.Endnotes
