She is survived by her son Cameron Cagle of Albemarle.ALBEMARLE, N.C. - The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office has concluded that a shooting Thursday was a murder-suicide. Deputies responded to a report of a possible prowler knocking on the door of a home on Canton Road. Upon arriving, deputies found a 24-year-old man, now identified as Cameron Cagle of Albemarle, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Capt. Chris Huneycutt said. It was later discovered Cagle ran to the house officers found him at seeking help from a neighbor after he was shot. He told investigators his grandfather, Donnie D. Furr, shot him at his house across the street, at 28641 Canton Road. He also said he heard a total of four gunshots, police said. “He is a victim in this case,” Huneycutt said. “He bears no responsibility in this matter.” Cagle was transported Carolinas Medical Center – Northeast. He is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, Huneycutt said. After finding Cagle, investigators entered the home and found three who were deceased. The Sheriff’s Officer later identified them as Donnie Dewey Furr, 74, Elaine Burleson Furr, 76, and Paula Jo Furr, 54. On Friday, investigators met with the District Attorney to present evidence from the case. They later found Donnie D. Furr was responsible for the deaths of his wife, Elaine, and daughter, Paula. The incident was determined to be a double murder-suicide. Stanly County Sheriff Jeff Crisco commended his officers for their handling of the situation, saying they did so in the “most professional manner it could have been treated.”
