Death
ASHEVILLE - Walter Floyd Furr, 83, died of cancer on Thursday, May 5, 2011. Floyd was born in Concord, the son of Albert Floyd and Ola D. Furr. He was a graduate of Davidson College and served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, where he was in business before retiring to Asheville to spend more time with his family. Floyd was an avid golfer and former member of Biltmore Forest Country Club, Hound Ears Club in Blowing Rock and board member of Highland Country Club in Fayetteville. He is survived by his wife, Linda Godwin Furr; a daughter, Lynn Kieffer and husband Bob of Asheville; and grandson, Wilson Kieffer of Atlanta. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, in St. Giles Chapel on the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Center campus. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CarePartners Hospice Fund, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813; the Deerfield Residency Fund, 1617 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803; or your local animal shelter.
