Death
HARRISBURG – On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Mr. Robert Eugene Furr, 77, passed away peacefully at his home with his children and grandchildren around his bedside. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord, NC. Entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday and at other times at the home. Robert was born November 4, 1944, in Cabarrus County, NC, one of 10 children born to George Washington Furr and Amanda Elizabeth Hawkins Furr. He owned and operated Furr’s Carpet Service until his retirement in 2001. He had served as a Cub Scout Leader and a 4-H Parent and Volunteer with Cabarrus County 4-H. Having been a member of Roberta Baptist Church, he was ordained deacon there. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Kelly Furr Cohen (Marc) of Springfield, VA, Robbie Furr (Peter Jawidzik) of Concord, and Nanci Furr of Rural Hall; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Taylor Furr Hartman (Brandon) of Walnut Cove, Austin Furr of Clover, SC, Cameron Furr, US Army stationed at Ft. Drum, Amanda Cohen of Springfield, VA, Adam Wilson, and Rachel Wilson both of Harrisburg; he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Baby Hartman in October; his sisters and brothers, Jeanette Butler of Norfolk, VA, Ruby Linker, Judy Gray, Wanda Lewis, Ray Furr (Marla) and Gary Furr (Carlene) all of Concord; his brothers-in-law, Ray Lambert (Sarah) and Wayne “Bob” Honeycutt both of Harrisburg and his nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Judy McCall Furr and his brothers, Bobby Furr, Buddy Furr, and G.W. Furr, Jr. Robert loved his family dearly and was a very caring and devoted Paw Paw to his grandchildren. He not only loved and celebrated his family’s success he also welcomed lovingly their friends, as a part of the Furr family. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed time spent outside at his home. He understood the importance of accepting others for who they are. He saw the good in people when others didn’t. He was very kind and enjoyed seeing friends he had made during his life’s journey, often calling them by name. He was well respected among his community for his work ethic in his flooring business. Robert Furr, in a nutshell, embodied the fruits of the spirit, found in Galatians, love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.Endnotes
