Death

KANNAPOLIS Carolyn Jane Shackelford, 61, of Kannapolis, passed away early Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Tucker Hospice House. Her death follows a period of declining health. Carolyn was born in Cabarrus County May 14, 1953, a daughter of the late Vivian Furr Carroll. In addition to her mother she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee Shackelford Sr., who died in 1983. Carolyn was employed at Cannon Mills as a Spinner. She enjoyed the outdoors, arts and crafts, especially sewing and drawing. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. A private service to celebrate Carolyn's life will be held by the family at a later date. Whitley's Funeral Home is assisting the family. She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Wright and husband, Danny, of Kannapolis and Sharon Corona and husband, Rigo, of Charlotte; a son, Jerry Lee Shackelford Jr., of Kannapolis; six grandchildren, Tiffany and Erin Wright, Jake Lee Shackelford, Sergio Gonzalez, Gerardo Mejia and Selena Cortez; brothers, Frankie, Danny and Reggie Carroll; and a sister, Pat Kiker. The family suggest memorials be made to Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
