Notes
Death
Dewan Furr, 3, of Caruthers, died yesterday in the Fresno Hospital, the third victim in ten days of infectious dysentery with which six members of two Caruthers families were stricken. Because of the nature of the disease, representatives of the state board of health have taken cultures from the victims for laboratory examination at Berkeley in an effort to determine the causative agent. First to succumb to the disease was Leon Furr, 5, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Furr. He died June 4th. His death was followed June10th by that of his sister, Peggy Ruth. Their parents also were stricken and the mother was treated at the county hospital. The father had only a mild infection and did not obtain medical attention at the hospital. The child who died yesterday was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Furr and a cousin of Leon and Peggy Ruth Furr. Dewan's brother, Billy Roy, aged 5 months, is in the hospital in a critical condition. Dr. H. M. Ginsburg, superintendent of the hospital, said while the affliction is highly contagious and may be transmitted from person to person, it also may be transmitted through food or liquids. Funeral services for Dewan Furr will be conducted at 10 A. M. Monday at the Easton Funeral Home and burial will be in the Washington Colony Cemetery. The Fresno Bee, Fresno, California, June 13, 1937
