SAN ANTONIO - Two people were killed after a violent wrong-way collision on the South Side late Tuesday night. San Antonio police identified the victims Wednesday morning as Timothy Ray Furr, 53, and Melodie Ann Trevino, 48. Police said they received several calls about a red Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 South near SW Military Drive around 11 p.m. A short time later, the driver of the truck identified as Furr slammed into a minivan driven by Trevino. The minivan spun out of control and was T-boned by a big rig, police said. Trevino was pronounced dead at the scene. San Antonio fire crews had to cut her passenger out of the minivan. He was identified as 23-year-old Rafael Trevino and was listed in critical condition at San Antonio Military Medical Center. The wrong-way driver, Furr, was also taken to SAMMC but died a short time later, police said. The crash tied up Tuesday night traffic for a few hours and first responders had some initial trouble getting to the wreck due to recent rain. San Antonio police have not said why Furr was driving the wrong-way.
