Death
Flynn Gene McCall, 66, of Midland, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at CMC Pineville. Gene was born in Mecklenburg County on January 6, 1949, the second child of Jess Lee McCall and Myrtle Kathleen McCall-Hefner. He graduated in 1967 from Independence High School in Charlotte and on January 29, 1969, he answered his country’s call to service in the United States Army. He faithfully served in the Vietnam conflict where he was trained in aircraft hydraulic repair and was awarded the National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and the Army Commendation Medal before his honorable discharge as an E5 Specialist on November 30, 1971. He went on to work for Yount Construction Company of Matthews. Gene is survived by his better half, Lottie Wilson of Mt Pleasant, NC; two children: Thomas Wayne Wilson (wife Cynthia) of Kannapolis, NC, and Monica McCall of Charlotte; He is also survived by his siblings: Carolyn Wright of Charlotte; Henry (wife Diane) McCall of Union County; Vann (Wanda) McCall of Indian Trail, NC; George (wife Toni) McCall of Lake Wylie, NC; Beverly (husband Bobby) Williams of Midland; Jane (husband Tim) Clark of Monroe; James “Cooter” (wife Jennifer) McCall of Davidson; Robbie Hefner of Charlotte; Jerry Hefner of Mint Hill; and Terry Hefner of Mint Hill. He is further survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charlie. Gene’s family has given the privilege of serving them to the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home, Matthews, NC. A gathering and visitation was held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the funeral home starting at 1 pm. At 2 pm, services was held in the funeral home chapel. Interment followed and take place at Sunset Memory Gardens, Charlotte, NC.Endnotes
