Notes
Death
Greg was born to Ray and Bette Furr and was proud to say he was raised in Taft, CA. He graduated from Taft Union High School and Taft College. This man was full of life and lived each day like it was his last. He was a “motorcyclist extraordinaire.” This was his primary mode of transportation for most of his life. He “retired” during his early thirties and traveled in Europe for several months spending the majority in Malta. When the retirement funds ran out, he returned to Taft and worked again in the oil fields. His first job in corrections was with MTC at the Eagle Mountain CCF. He eventually returned to Taft and went to work at the Taft Correctional Institution where he was employed for 15 years. He enjoyed photography and was the host of countless poker parties. He was a gun and shooting enthusiast and a life member of the NRA. He completed a firearms training course so he could be more proficient when assisting his fellow officers pass the annual firearms re-qualification at TCI. He had many friends, some dating back to his grammar school days. Greg is preceded in death by his sister, Connie. On February 18, 2006 he married Anacoreta Bregana and she became “The Lovely Mrs. Furr.” Together, they traveled and visited friends and family. They were always very gracious to guests of their home. They adopted their “four-legged son”, Bandit, in 2008 and he went everywhere with them. When you asked Greg how he was doing, the usual answer was either “pure good” or “extremely blessed.” His laugh will not soon be forgotten by anyone who has ever been within a quarter mile when he let loose. He was a true friend to many and will be missed deeply. Surviving Greg is his wife of nine wonderful years, Anacoreta; and his three nieces, Shannon, Kendra and Andrea. He is also so loved by his extended family from the Philippines. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at New Hope Temple, 308 Harrison St., Taft, with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall. There are no visitation hours scheduled. Note: The “Gregisms” in quotes are from Greg.Endnotes
