Death
Thomas F. "Tommy" McSwain, age 89, of Wake Forest and a native of Rutherford County, died September 30, 2015 at Wake Forest Medical Center. Born February 12, 1926 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Buster McSwain and Mamie Louvetta Moore McSwain. He served in the US Army and was a World War II veteran. Tommy was an administrator for the State of North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement Agency for thirty-four years. During his service for the State of North Carolina he also worked as a Highway Patrolman, and a training instructor. He was an avid baseball player, having played amateur baseball. During his years in Rutherford County, he and his family attended the Temple Baptist Church of Henrietta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two sisters, Mildred McSwain Forbes and Inez McSwain Grant; one brother, George McSwain. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Melda Furr McSwain; daughter, Debra McSwain Chambers and husband, Charles of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Chambers and Michael Alan Chambers; one great-grandson, Jackson Reid Chambers. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret McSwain Yelton of Charlotte. Funeral services will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
