He had a diverse career ranging from law enforcement in the Strategic Air Command of the US Air Force and the Little Rock Police Department to Nursing Home Administrator, but the thing he loved most outside his family was flying. He got his pilot's license as a teenager and kept it until glaucoma ended that career. He became a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church after moving from Mena, where he had been a faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church for many years and a charter member of the Monsignor Gallagher Knights of Columbus. Rosary service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, January 26, 2021 followed by a funeral mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 11:00 am, with Father Mario Jacobo officiating under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Ft. Smith National Cemetery. He is preceded in death by his father and mother and Edward Furr, his older brother. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Ann Furr, and his children and grandchildren; Jackie Sillavan and husband Joel and their sons, Payne and Oliver, Nevin Furr, Avanlea Chaney and husband David, sister-in-law Elane Berry, and nieces Karie Benson and husband Richie, Dr. April Berry Turner and husband Dave, and Dr. Jennifer Berry and husband Trevor Silva, several grand nieces and nephews and his beloved pets. Pallbearers will be Joel Sillavan, Payne Sillavan, Oliver Sillavan, Nevin Furr, Richie Benson and Eric Benson. Honorary pallbearers are the men of St. Agnes Church. The family wishes to thank Dr. Holly Jennings and the nurses at Baptist, Heart of Hospice, Crawford Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and many friends for their care and compassion during this time.
