Death
Jerry Anderson Ervin, 78, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 11, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on January 1, 1937 to Louise Hager and Charles Anderson Ervin in Statesville, NC. He began employment while attending high school, at Winn-Dixie where he worked for 42 years in various positions. His strong work ethic and attention to detail earned him many accolades and created lifelong friendships. While in retirement he continued to enjoy playing golf, keeping his yard beautiful, his Monday night poker games, taking care of Tiffany Woods entrances and most of all traveling with his wife. He had a lasting impact on everyone he met and will be dearly missed. Jerry's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends and telling his special stories. He is survived by the love of his life of 39 years Mary Boyd Ervin, two sons, Chris Ervin of Durham, NC who was there for his dad and assisted in his care. Son, Vience Ervin of Martinsville, VA, his mother Louise Ervin, sister Faye Rogoff and his beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Claudette Furr Ervin, the mother of his children and his father Charles Ervin. There will be no funeral or memorial services as per Mr. Ervin's request. Please join us for a celebration of his life by visitation at the Ervin Residence on Saturday, September 19th from 3 PM until. Dress will be casual and comfortable /no ties. Special thanks to his best friend, Reamey Winn, who has always been there for him, his special niece Melody Harrell who has been so close to him through the years, nephews Chad Harrell and Don Fredericksen who have meant so much and a heartfelt thank you to neighbors Kenneth Ennis and Mickey Hawley for helping in his care.Published in The News & Observer from Sept. 17 to Sept. 18, 2015
