Gaston D. CO E., 3 NC INF., 7-16-62 W. Gettysburg-P. 5-12-64Resided in Moore County and enlisted in Walker Co. at age 23, July 15, 1862, for the war. Captured at Chancellors Ville, VA, May 3, 1863, and paroled at Washington, D.C., May 19, 1863. Wounded at Gettysburg, PA, July 3, 1863, and captured at Gettysburg July 4-5, 1863. Confined in hospital at Chester, PA, until paroled and exchanged at City Point, VA, September 23, 1863. Captured near Spotsylvania Court House, VA, May 30, 1864 and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. Transferred July 8, 1864, to Elmira, NY, where he remained until paroled on March 2, 1865. Admitted to hospital at Richmond, VA, March 6, 1865, with "debvilitas." Furloughed from hospital March 9, 1865 for 30 days.
