Death
Paul H. Roper was born August 9, 1932 in Shamrock, TX, Wheeler County to Gwilt Roper, M.D. and Mable Holmes Roper. He passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2003. Mr. Roper attended elementary school and graduated from Shamrock High School in 1950. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1954 with a BA Degree in Business. Upon graduation, he was also commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He later was stationed in Germany. After being discharged from the military, he attended Iowa State University, where he graduated with a Master's in Hospital Administration. Mr. Roper moved to San Antonio, TX to take his Internship and Residency Program at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Mr. Roper retired from Baptist Hospital after 30 years having served as Assistant Administrator and later as Administrator. Mr. Roper was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was active as a Deacon and in the Television and Tape Ministries. He was an active member of the San Antonio Association of Former Students. Mr. Roper was also active in the San Antonio Power Squadron for a number of years; a member of the Albert Pike Lodge No. 1169 A.F. & A.M., San Antonio Radio Organization, San Antonio Repeater Organization, Intertie Inc. and Computer Clicks, Talking Books. Mr. Roper was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Gwilt Roper. He is survived by his wife, Dana of San Antonio; mother, Mable Holmes McCartney; two sons, Brian Roper and wife Holly of Charlotte, NC, Boyce Roper and wife Lisa of Katy, TX; two granddaughters, Erin and McKenzie Roper of Charlotte, NC; three grandsons, Bobby, Matthew and Andrew Roper of Katy, TX. He is also survived by Blake McCartney, Janet Johnson, Carolyn Colburt, Martha Schar and many, many friends.San Antonio Express-News, March 2, 2003
