Notes
Death
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we celebrate the life of a beloved soul, Carrie Furr Frye, born June 20, 1942, in Montgomery, Alabama, to P.V. Furr and Lula Mae Owens Furr. Carrie left her earthly home to be with Jesus on September 16, 2026. We celebrate the life of this precious daughter, sister, wife, mother, stepmother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She absolutely lived her life to the fullest. She traveled the world and lived in Kuwait and Arizona. Her last earthly home was Sandestin, Florida (for 27 years). Her life was filled with a great group of friends there in Sandestin. They made sure she was rarely lonely after the death of her husband of 40 years, Gil. She intentionally filled her life with purpose, laughter, generosity, and above all, love. She lived not by counting the years but by making every year count. She left behind a legacy woven through the lives of all who were fortunate to know her. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome. Whether through a warm, beautiful smile, a thoughtful word in her classic Southern accent, an open door, or a place at the table, she created a sense of home wherever she went. Her love for family and friends was steady and wholehearted. She embraced life with curiosity and gratitude. To know her was to witness a life of resilience, grace, and devotion. Carrie is survived by her children—sons Jack Freeman, Steve Freeman (Beth), and stepson Stanley Frye, MD; stepdaughters, Myra F. Marshall, Terri F. Stansell, and Eloise Frye—as well as her grandchildren: Candice Freeman Frye (Spencer), Christopher Brett Freeman, Jeffery Blake Freeman (Nur), Winston Freeman, Taylor Freeman, and Madison Freeman. Her sister, Mary Alice Maine, is the last surviving of her five siblings. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members too numerous to name. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Gil Frye; parents, P.V. and Lula Mae Furr; sisters, Helen McLean, Lila Mae Kelley, and Imogene Darden; brother, Paul Furr (known to the family as Sonny); and stepdaughter, Michell F. Gosnell. It was Carrie's wish to be cremated and to have only a small celebration of life. A memorial gathering will be held in Florida, with the date to be announced. Carrie had a deep love for both people and animals. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Carrie’s memory may consider making a donation to their favorite animal shelter. As we extend our deepest condolences to you and your family during this difficult time, we would also like to express our utmost gratitude to you for entrusting us with your loved one.
