Toccoa - Mr. William "Bill" Furr Harris, 85, of Toccoa, died August 2, 2006. Services will be 2pm, Friday, August 4, 2006 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. Survivors include daughter Jan Harris; sisters Mary Bess Clark, Rose Langston; sister-in-law Alice Hayes; grandson William A. Lewis. Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, has charge of arrangements. Published in the Athens Banner-Herald on 8/4/2006.HARRIS - Mr. William "Bill" Furr Harris, age 85, of 1551 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, Georgia passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at the Sunrise of East Cobb Personal Care Home in Marietta. The son of the late Leroy C. Harris, Sr. and Bess Furr Harris, he was born June 25, 1921 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived for most of his life, having lived in Commerce, Georgia for three years and in Marietta for the past year. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force having served in World War II, and in the Korean War. He was retired from Coats and Clark after forty-seven years of service and was former Mayor and City Commissioner of Toccoa. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Toccoa, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 4346 where he served as the former quarter master for a long number of years and on the V.F.W. Honor Guard. He was a member of the Toccoa Elks Club, life member of the American Legion Post 104, former Cub Scout Master of Pack 168 and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and member of the Toccoa Planning Commission. He was preceded in death by wife, Ruth Davis Harris and by his brother, Leroy C. Harris, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Jan Harris of Acworth, Georgia; a grandson, William Andrew Lewis; two sisters, Mary Bess Clark of Princeton, New Jersey and Rose Langston of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and sister-in-law, Alice Hayes of Toccoa. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon, 2 o'clock, at the St. Matthias Episcopal Church. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers and will please assemble at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Jeptha Perry, Archie Devlin, James Neal, Stephen Bloomingdale, Jay Green, and Steve Spruill. The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and that memorials may be made to the Acworth Art Guild, c/o Acworth City Hall, 4145 Senator Russell Avenue, Acworth, Georgia, 30101, in memory of Mr. William "Bill" Harris. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Alice Hayes, Savannah Street, Toccoa, and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with The V.F.W. Post 4346 conducting military honors. The Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. William "Bill" Furr Harris.
