Death

Dean Edward Banakes, 73, of New London passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center after long term Parkinson's Disease. Mr. Banakes was born in Wenatchee, Washington on August 3, 1949 to Sam T. Banakes and Dorothy M. Banakes. Mr. Banakes was the owner and operator of Albemarle Glass Company, Inc. for 44 years and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church. Survivors include wife of 49 years, Pat Ann Furr Banakes of New London; brother-in-law Rickey M. Furr and wife Cynthia of Albemarle; nephew David M. Furr of Saint Petersburg, Florida; and niece Candace Holmlund of Sweden. His funeral service will be held at graveside at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 in the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Stoney Benfield officiating. His body will lie in state at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 at the funeral home prior to the hour of the service. Donations may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Prospect Baptist Church, 502 Prospect Church Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.
