Death

Ruth Overcash Furr, 94, of Salisbury passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 at Genesis Healthcare of Salisbury. Born Sept. 14, 1924 in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Lena Swicegood Overcash and John S. Overcash. She was educated in the Salisbury schools and graduated from Boyden High School. Mrs. Furr was a seamstress for Leisure Ladds and was a homemaker. She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and the Caring Friends Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Eugene Furr Sr. on March 29, 1985; a daughter, Trudy Furr; sisters, Johnsie Welch, Thelma Bowers and Eva Beaver; and brothers Wade Overcash and Claude Overcash. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Howard E. Furr Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Lori Smith (Hugh) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Misty Cruse (Justin) of Salisbury, Derek Furr (Jennifer) of Hendersonville and Katlyn Smith of Salisbury; and great-grandchildren, Lilly Cruse, Jett Cruse, Elijah Furr and Allison Furr. Visitation & Service: The family will receive friends at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Earl Pennell officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Furr family.
