Death

Jackie Ray Mitchell, Sr. of Kiowa, Oklahoma died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the age of 77 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Jackie was born on August 30, 1937 to Jack Woody Mitchell and Viola Elizabeth (Lambert) Mitchell in Kiowa, Oklahoma. Jackie married Eppie Lorene Furr on February 27, 1962 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Jackie retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Pittsburg County. He loved carpentry and spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite motto was, “If you can’t be good, name it after me”. Jackie survived by his wife of the home Eppie Mitchell; daughters, Tonya (Mitchell) Rutledge and husband Danny of Kiowa, Oklahoma and Regina Furr of Wilburton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kaela Mitchell, Brittani Rutledge, Kimberli Rutledge, Jazmyne McNeely all of Kiowa, Oklahoma and Miranda Rutledge of Coalgate, Tommy Mitchell and wife Shyann of McAlester, Oklahoma and Christopher Furr and wife Jennifer of Wilburton, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Hailey Furr and Aiden Furr; special nephew Donnie Misener of Kiowa, Oklahoma; twin sister, Shirley Shannon and husband Doy of Kiowa, Oklahoma and sister, Susie Hailes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brothers, Clarence “Jenkie” Mitchell and wife Nancy of Anchorage, Alaska and Cal “Leon” Mitchell and wife Marsha of Kansas City, Missouri; great niece and nephew, Eddie and Nicole; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Viola Mitchell; sister, Eloise Misener, and Juanita “Shorty” Griffin; son, Jackie Ray “Bo” Mitchell, Jr.; infant daughter, Lauren Fay Mitchell and infant grandson, Dillion Furr; first wife and daughter, Mary and Lona Lou Mitchell. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel in McAlester. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2015 at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel in McAlester with Pastor James Crowson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Donnie Misener, Paul Tusken, Jeff Mitchell and Steven Peterson. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home in McAlester, Oklahoma
