Jonah Askew LOVE

(26 Oct 1825 - 14 Feb 1907)

Jonah Askew Love also served in the civil war. Enlisting in Halifax County on 1 Mar 1863, Jonah joined up with others from Stanly County serving in CSA Co. H, 42nd Reg. NC and was present and accounted for until he reported absent wounded in May 1864. He was furloughed for sixty days on 1 Oct. 1864. On 28 Jul 1901, Jonah A. Love applied for a civil war pension. In the application, Jonah’s doctor wrote: “Mr Love lost his right arm by a gun shot. He is almost entirely deaf and by reason of age he is very weak and feable. He is wholly incapacitated for any kind of manual labor.”


Jonah A. Love’s Will.

State of North Carolina,
Stanly County.

I Jonah A. Love, being of sound mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament;
First, That my executors herein after named shall provide for my body a cecent burial and tombstones suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives, and pay all funeral expenses, together with all my just debts out of the moneys that may first come into their hands as part of my estate.

1st I give and bequeath to my son William J. Love one hundred acres of land more or less, adjoining the lands of William Furr, Alex. Little & others, which I have already deeded to him, valued at $325.00.
2nd I give and bequeath to my son Mumpford P. Love instead of one hundred acres of land, $325.00 in cash, which I have already paid him.
3rd I give and bequeath to my son Doctor F. Love one hundred acres of land more or less, adjoining Tillman Hartsell, Adam Love & others, which I have already deeded him, valued at $325.00.
4th I give and bequeath to my son H. Pinkney Love one hundred acres of land more or less, adjoining John Love, Israel Furr & others, which I have already deeded to him, valued at $325.00
5th I will that the lands and personal property of every description which I may own at my death be sold at public sale and that the proceeds thereof be equally divided among my four sons, Wm J. Love, M. P. Love, D. F. Love, and H. P. Love.
6thI do hereby constitute and appoint my to sons Mumpford P. Love and H. Pinkney Love my Executors to carry out this will according to the true intent and meaning thereof.

In Witness whereof I, the said Jonah A. Love, do hereunto set my hand and seal this 8 day of November 1898.
