Samuel Canterbury-1782 Taxpayers List for Montgomery County, VA, 1, page 21
Samuel received a grant for 100 acres on the northside of Pilot Mountain, Elliott's Creek, Montgomery County, VA, in 1785. There is also a William Canterbury who received grants for 100 and 147 acres on Elliott's Creek in the same year.

There is a Samuel Canterbury who served as a Private in Malcolm's Regiment of Continental Troops. I am not positive if this is the same Samuel, but it is worth checking into.
