Individual Details
Daniel SHUMATE
(14 Jun 1749 - 19 Jul 1826)
There is some controversy concerning who Daniel's parents were. The three possibilities are he was the son of:
1. Daniel born 1734 (son of John born 1708, son of Jean born 1665)
2. John born 1708
3. Daniel born 1712 (son of Jean born 1665)
Harriett Pyles shows the lineage shown here based on the following sources: family records as well as History of Fauquier County, VA, History of Monroe County, WV, and History of Raleigh County, WV.
Ron Shumate (shumate@texas.net) says:
I don't have proof, but I go with the theory of Daniel who married Milly was the s/o of Daniel who married Sarah.
If Daniel who married Sarah was born in 1734 had a son Daniel born in June 14,1751 this made Daniel (the father) age 17.
The will of Daniel (the father) was written in Jan 1806. Daniel (the son) and family was already in Greenbriar County, VA.
Daniel (the son) resigned from the Fauquier Militia in May 1781 and Greenbriar tax records shows him in 1782. This could explain why he was not listed in the father's will.
