Death
OXFORD - Charles Lamar Nelson, 89, died Jan. 16, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oxford. Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford with the Rev. Bob Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Nelson had lived in the Oxford area since 1981. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a teacher for 37 years and an author who had published three books and was a member of the Hall of Fame in poetry. He was a member of Oxford Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Nelson; parents, Charles and Willie Aileen Nelson; son, Robert Nelson; daughter, Marlena Nelson; and brother, James Nelson. He is survived by his son, Tim Nelson; sisters, Stella Elaine Walker of Panama City, Fla., Esta Mae Anderson of Williamsburg, Va., and Joan Marie Vick of Oxford.
