Notes
Birth
1870 Monroe County, Mississippi, Census shows birthplace as Virginia.Death
Our venerable fellow citizen, Absolom Wood Hansell, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. O. H. Garmon, in this town, on Saturday morning last. He was a native of South Carolina. About fifty years ago he fixed his home some five miles east of this place, in the edge of Monroe County. That was his home for the balance of his life. When he settled there his nearest neighbor lived at Van Buren, in Itawamba County, 18 miles distant. He died in his 76th year. He was buried in the family graveyard, near where he had so long resided. Quite a touching incident occurred at the burial. J. B. Sparks, one of the earliest settlers in the neighborhood, attended the burial, and pointed out and commented appropriately upon the first grave made at that place, nearly half a century ago, he and Mr. Hansell having assisted in the making thereof.Tupelo Journal, March 5 1886
