Death
Paul Kenneth Morgan Sr., 96, of Richfield NC, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at home. Paul was born April 9, 1927, in North Carolina to the late Daniel Carson Morgan and the late Lizzie Talbert Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his former wives Doris Furr Morgan and Germaine Melancon; stepmother Mahaza Barbee Morgan; and brothers Carson Morgan, JD Morgan and Bill Morgan. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Stanly Gardens of Memory located at 2001 East Main St. Albemarle, NC, officiated by Pastor Nathan Hamill. Paul was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed doing home improvement projects and had a passion for riding motorcycles. Paul bought his last motorcycle at the age of 88 and rode into his 90s. He was a WWII Navy veteran who was a part of the Seabees and was stationed in Japan. When he left the Navy, he went to work in the cotton mills of Albemarle, Concord and Durham. After working for the Mills, he worked for Lorch Plumbing and Heating in Albemarle. Later, he moved to Newport News, Virginia where he went to work for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company as a pipe fitter in 1961, till retirement in 1989. His greatest joy in life was his great-grandchildren, Cindora and Marcus Jr., and he especially cherished his last two summers that he got to spend with them. Survivors include sons, Kenny Morgan Jr. and wife, Katherine, of Newport News, VA, and Rodney D. Morgan of Richfield, NC; grandsons, Matthew W. Morgan and Marcus N. Morgan Sr. and his wife, Didy; great-grandchildren, Cindora and Marcus Jr.; and sister-in-law, Rella Mae Morgan, as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Open Door Baptist Church, located at 24639 NC Hwy. 49, Richfield, NC 28137, and Denbigh Christian Church, located at 816 Moyer Road, Newport News, VA 23608. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Phillip Veatch, to Adoration Home Health, and to Tillery Compassionate Care for their devoted service.
